Diagnostic Services

St. Clair Medical Centre is affiliated with The St Augustine Medical Laboratory, who has attained ISO 15189 accreditation status with a scope of 124 tests.
A complete laboratory service is available.

 

Doctors can have their reports delivered directly to their offices.  An emergency service (STAT) is also available.

 

Blood Transfusions

  • All blood for transfusion is obtained via donation by the patient’s relatives / friends etc. at the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS), #160 Charlotte Street, Port of Spain.
  • All patients requiring transfusions are asked to have their donors go to the NBTS to donate blood in their name. 
  • Once the blood is donated, donor slips are brought to the lab for collection and the cross matching of the blood for Transfusion.
  • NBTS requires one week advance notice per unit of blood required, and patients are accordingly advised to have their donors present themselves at the NBTS one week prior to their scheduled transfusion.
  • Patients must also visit the lab one week in advance of transfusion for the necessary blood specimens to be drawn for the actual grouping and cross- matching.
